given that:
The Degree Course in Design of the University of the Republic of San Marino, in the persons of the directors Professor Massimo Brignoni and Professor Riccardo Varini, have launched various basic and applied research projects to help communities and territories in identifying cultural, social, material and immaterial resources and accompany them during the planning, implementation and valorisation processes. Community Design is the set of research, reflections and activities that the research group has experimented over time and in a continuous and interdisciplinary manner in the face of heritages and values on which traditional, new or hybrid communities identify themselves. Community Design means reflecting on responsibilities and strategies to imagine new system design actions that have cultural, economic and social impacts in the contexts in which they operate. A work of conceptual connection and stitching that courageously crosses areas considered distant, perceived as different and divided. A work of continuous connection between small and large, between inside and outside, between local and global, between material and immaterial. The scientific objectives were to verify the ways in which the design discipline can contribute to new development strategies in local, national and international contexts. Different methods of intervention were experimented and in particular some themes were explored in depth: the definition of strategies for activating actions and actors in local supply chains, methodologies for technological transfer while respecting local cultures and traditions and the role of design in processes of artisanal or industrial cultural development of small businesses. The research conducted so far highlights the importance of training and the creation of critical knowledge generated from within as primary and basic issues of every evolutionary process and in the future it cannot fail to take into account both the communication and interaction methods offered by the network and of the new scenarios induced by productive, social and economic globalization processes.
