1. the Degree Course in Civil Engineering (disciplinary scientific sector SSD ICAR/04 Roads, Railways and Airports) has been sharing activities and resources with the Autonomous Authority of Strato for Public Works (AASLP) since 2016 on the subject of "planning and design of road maintenance interventions and introduction of eco-sustainable intervention techniques"

2. the development of the collaboration has seen a constant growth of activities aimed at research, optimization processes, application, dissemination and training in the field of road engineering with mutual satisfaction.

Description, project and objectives of the research
The main objective of a public body managing a road network is the rational use of public funds with the aim of providing users with a comfortable and safe road surface. In this context, planning of road maintenance works with a multi-year projection based on a programmatic scheme of activities in which intervention strategies and priorities must be identified is essential. A technical process returns effective and justifiable choices for the allocation of investments, as well as becoming a real strategic decision-making tool. The classification of the roads on the basis of their function and state of conservation makes the study objective and rational, going to highlight and circumscribe sections in the best state of conservation, sections close to the threshold of loss of safety, up to those in emergency, such as to request prompt intervention.

In this context, the research fellow will have to carry out a bibliographic study focused on the "Pavement Management System” and on the use of GIS tools as a database and application for the integration of specific calculation routines. All bibliographic documentation must be suitably cataloged and made available to the working group.

The research fellow will alternate study and research activities with application and field activities in close contact with the AASLP staff, carrying out inspections, investigations and checks on the San Marino road system.

The specific objectives of the research are aimed at determining a procedure that allows the identification of the sections to be included in the annual maintenance plan and the subsequent technical, economic and environmental assessment of different intervention scenarios, taking into consideration the multi-year projection of the investments.
