given that:
In the construction sector, the topic of sustainability has become a relevant and urgent aspect, also considering the effects of climate change in progress. The implications of this need are various and associated with the optimization process, the reuse of raw materials and the revision of design standards. From a conceptual point of view, for example, a review of natural actions on structures is necessary, in terms of redefining the probabilistic calculation of intensity and modality of loads applied to buildings and the consequent useful life perspective.
The development of technologies related to the use of new materials and improvement of the characteristics of more traditional solutions leads to the possibility of designing highly performing and technologically advanced structures, capable of satisfying multiple needs, in particular for resistance, durability and ability to respond to exceptional actions, allowing the construction of large-scale, economical, reliable and resilient structures over time. The research is part of the sustainability theme with the aim of investigating some of the contents mentioned above to propose new approaches and solutions in the field of civil structures.

RESEARCH GRANT
Equivalent to CUN area: 08 – Civil Engineering and Architecture
recently reclassified in the Italian ministerial system CEAR-07/A
Scientific Disciplinary Sector: CEAR-07/A (ICAR/09)
Search title: Climate change and sustainable construction
Scientific responsible for the research: Emanuele Maiorana
Duration: 12 months, renewable
Description of the Research Project
The research project will consider the investigation techniques currently available for monitoring existing structures, for the purpose of maintaining the performance capabilities of buildings, considering the ongoing climate change. One or more application case studies will be taken into consideration, on which intervention strategies for improvement or adaptation will be proposed with respect to current regulatory requirements. The future prospects of commitment of the structure with respect to exceptional actions will be considered, also considering the probability of occurrence. For new buildings, for the purposes of the sustainability theme, among other possible themes, the application of innovative materials, construction methodologies and recycling will be considered.
Method of submitting applications
Applications to participate in the selection (annex 1) must be addressed to the Director of the Department of Economics, Science, Engineering and Design, by midnight of March 9.00, 20.
The application can be delivered no later than 9.00 am on 20 March 2025 directly to the Department of Economics, Science, Engineering and Design — via Consiglio dei Sessanta, 99 (Third Floor, Tower B) – Dogana – Rep. San Marino, or it can be sent by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt or by courier. The date of hiring will be considered valid and will be registered with the Department of Economics, Science, Engineering and Design.
