Article 1: Definition and objectives of the initiative
The degree courses in Civil Engineering and Construction and Territorial Management of the University of the Republic of San Marino are promoters with the Secretariats of State and the Departments for Education and for the Environment Territory of a competition of design ideas to make your territory more eco-sustainable. Climate change is one of the main challenges facing societies in the XNUMXst century and there is widespread consensus in the international scientific community that the phenomenon is destined to profoundly affect future possibilities for survival and development. In fact, climate change is transforming the planet by affecting structures and infrastructures, compromising territorial balances, food and water supply systems and causing effects that are harmful to people's health. An urgent challenge that goes beyond the borders of every single nation, which requires the commitment of the central politics of each country, of the local authorities but also the awareness of individual citizens to use material and energy resources in a more rational and efficient way. To date, there are still many urgent measures, ecological policies, "green" investments to be adopted in the transition path towards eco-sustainability and the circular economy. In this context, all sectors of Civil Engineering, aimed at the development and implementation of new technologies, design and management methods, play a pivotal role.

What are the design proposals in urban or extra-urban areas that you believe can be implemented, on a small scale of a single house or on an extended scale of a territory, to encourage the protection of the environmental heritage and overcome the challenge of environmental sustainability?

With this competition of ideas, the degree courses in Civil Engineering and Construction and Territorial Management of the University of the Republic of San Marino want to contribute to stimulating inventions, technological perspectives and applications of your studies that may have real attention and potential realization in the territory.

Art. 2: Theme of the competition
Participants are required to describe and exhibit project ideas that can see the application of the principles of circular economy, eco-sustainability, land management and digitization, which can contribute to making your country better for future generations. By way of example, new paths for sustainable mobility, waste management and recovery systems, recycling of demolition products for new buildings, techniques for reducing energy consumption for residential units or industrial plants, management and protection of natural resources, organization of emergencies, technologies in favor of making any social activity more efficient, entrepreneurial innovations dedicated to green methodologies, harmonization of the urban context in the natural environment, etc…

The design ideas can be described through images, diagrams, self-produced text descriptions or found from specific bibliographic and harmonized sources. The proposed project idea must have a title and be illustrated in a vertical poster 50×70 cm or in two A4 format pages and converted into pdf format. Participants are allowed all freedom of content, layout and style.

Article 3: Participants
Participation is reserved for San Marino and Italian secondary school students. Participation can take place individually (single author) or aggregated (group of two or more student co-authors up to including an entire class). In the case of participation in aggregate form, all co-authors and a representative author who takes the place of the group must be identified.
