Learning outcomes

Following the guidelines on learning a foreign language dictated by the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), the knowledge and skills required for the B1 level required by the English 1 course are: Understanding the key points of speeches that concern everyday, family and work topics. Expressing experiences, events and future projects in a fluent and understandable way. Expressing personal opinions. Writing a simple text related to familiar topics or of personal interest.

Course contents

Daily and familiar topics such as students’ studies, free time, current events, travelling, work, relationships,sports, marketing and advertising .

Prerequisites

Required prerequisites is a level A2+/B1 level of the English language in order to consolidate a full B1 level.

Teaching methods

In addition to the texts provided, the teaching tools used to address the topics will be recordings, videos, shareable PDF documents and audiovisual material available online. For each grammar topic or vocabulary the method includes a short theoretical part followed by individual practical exercises or in pairs and small groups.

Assessment methods

The final exam includes a written test in which the knowledge acquired by students following attendance of the course and study of the program will be assessed. The last lesson of the course includes a review and an exam simulation.

Additional info

Personal note-taking, participation and attendance are important. Constant study at home of the lessons which are accompanied by exercises suggested by the teacher are equally important for consolidating knowledge.
