Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to illustrate the operating logic of the CAD engine to acquire skills in computer-aided technical drawing, using the main design software.

Course content

Introduction. The philosophy and the basic concepts, the cad engine, scale, units of measure, etc.
The working environment
Toolbars and their uses
The use of the keyboard
Context menus
Right mouse functionality
Create a new worksheet
Opening drawings in DWG format
Precision drawing
The units of measure
The scale drawing
SNAP, Ortho and Polar command
Draw two-dimensional objects (lines, rays, circles, axes, splines, polylines, …)
Parametric design
Properties of graphic objects
Layers, transparency and lineweights
Selection and modification operations
The copy, move, array and mirror commands
Object formatting: rotation, scaling
Text management in the workplace
Query tools (volume calculation, mass properties calculation, distance calculation, …)
Dimension (linear dimensions, angular dimensions, quick dimension, symbols, …)
Import and manage images from other programs

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of CAD environment.

Specific handouts will be provided before the start of the course.

Teaching methods and tools

The lessons will be supported by continuous practical exercises and classroom simulations

Assessment methods and criteria

Weekly exercises, to verify the mastery of CAD drawing in a two-dimensional environment.
