PRESS RELEASE

San Marino, 15 September 2016
QUANTUM PHYSICS EXPLAINED TO THE LEGEND: THE UNIVERSITY OPENS TO THE PUBLIC WITH A CONFERENCE ADDRESSED TO EVERYONE
Scheduled for 20 September, it will be the final appointment of the Orientation Day of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, which will present three Degree Courses

A journey into the world of quantum physics, the theory that governs the infinitely small, with a look at the history and implications that have conditioned the minds of the greatest thinkers from its origins to today. This is what was proposed with the conference scheduled for Tuesday 20 September at 21 in the headquarters of the Degree Courses in Civil Engineering of the University of the Republic of San Marino, in via Salita alla Rocca 44, when Chiara Giacomoni, professor at the University del Titano, will be the protagonist of the meeting entitled "Quantum Physics: history, experiments and paradoxes".

The initiative will represent the final appointment of the Orientation Day of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, an afternoon 'marathon' during which three training courses will be presented thanks to the interventions of teachers, students, graduates and freelancers, ready to provide their testimony and to discuss the opportunities and prospects offered to those who study on the Titan.

It starts at 15 pm with the Three-year Degree Course in Civil Engineering, followed at 16 pm by the new Three-year Degree Course in Construction and Land Management, aimed at surveyors and the first initiative of this type in the territory of the Italian peninsula, and the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, which will be illustrated from 17 pm. All courses are organized in collaboration with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

“Among the scientific discoveries of the last century – says Giacomoni, speaker of the evening appointment – quantum physics is certainly the one that has most influenced our daily life: every day we use cell phones, computers and televisions, yet we still know too little about it. Reliance on classical physics, which is confirmed and reflected in the perception of our senses, is put to the test, opening horizons and solutions so far-fetched as to be incredible even to the very geniuses who discovered them. Aimed at a neophyte audience, the conference will have an informative nature and will illustrate, through simple and non-specialist language, the salient steps of the birth of this science starting from 1900, passing from the amazement of the creators themselves to the irrefutable and incontrovertible proofs of their results " .
