Biographical profile
The architect Marco Musmeci graduated with a thesis on "Palazzo Maschi-Marcheselli-Lettimi in Rimini" with honors and publication of the thesis, at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Florence; he then obtained the specialization in Restoration of Monuments at the University of Genoa and the postgraduate Diploma of Cataloguer of Cultural Heritage.
Between 1989 and 1990 he was among the first Italians to carry out the Erasmus Program which allowed him to study at the RWTH Aachen (Aachen Polytechnic) in Germany.
He has been a contract professor of "Architectural Composition" at the Faculty of Building Engineering of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and a professor of "Recovery and conservation of buildings" at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of the Republic of San Marino; in the latter University, since the 2017-2018 academic year, he has been a professor of the "Design Laboratory" in the three-year degree course in Construction and Land Management. He was thesis supervisor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of the Republic of San Marino and thesis co-supervisor at the Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna at the Faculty of Conservation of Cultural Heritage and at the Faculty of Building engineering, also at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Florence.
Between 2000 and 2001, he worked in Yemen as Head of Monuments and Cities of the Hadramaut for the World Bank's priority cultural sites census project.
Since 2011 he has been an official of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities at the Superintendence of Ravenna, now "Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena and Rimini", where he currently holds the roles of:
- Functional area manager for the demo-ethno-anthropological heritage of Romagna;
- Responsible for the monuments and landscape of 14 municipalities in the Cesenate area (Valle del Savio and Valle del Rubicone e Mare) and also for Palazzo Maschi-Marcheselli-Lettimi in Rimini (this last position until 08.11.2018);
- Head of the Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Suburbs Service;
- Head of the Catalog Office;
- Head of Relations with the Republic of San Marino;
- He was also organizer of the European Heritage Days and numerous other cultural initiatives, tutor of the "500 young people for culture" program, tutor of university training internships and also, member of the intervention teams after the Emilia 2012 earthquake and coordinator of groups of work.
Previously he worked at the Municipality of Rimini, the Civil Protection of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the IBC Institute for Artistic, Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Emilia-Romagna Region (with assignments for the cataloging campaigns of historical containers, hospitals "Paphe European Project", of the villas "European Villas Project"), the Diocese of Rimini, the Technical Service of the Parma Basin (former Civil Engineering) of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region (General Management and Ceremonial).
He has written numerous publications on the topics of History, Art and Design (Il Ponte, PR_Oggetti, ER Assembly), including recently two volumes on contemporary architecture for Hachette-Il Sole 24 Ore, dedicated to “Vienna” and “ Basel".
He has participated in numerous conferences both locally and internationally where he has proposed his original research (Villas, Templum Mirabile, Science and Cultural Heritage, Studi Romagnoli, Ravenna Musiva).
Between 1996 and 1997 he held the column "Labyrinth of Art, a journey through exhibitions and museums" on Radio Icaro. In 2016 he collaborated in the making of the documentary "Terra del Sole and Tuscan Romagna" within the television series "Invisible Italy" of SKY Arte HD.
He has held university lectures and lectures on the subjects of the History of Architecture, the History of Art and Museography, some of which have obtained the cultural patronage of the Embassy of the Austrian Republic, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden; in 2014 and 2017 he was invited to the Austrian Cultural Forum of the Austrian Embassy in Italy for two conferences on contemporary Viennese architecture. As part of the initiatives of the European Heritage Days of 2012, for the 90th Anniversary of the Municipality of Riccione, at the Villa Franceschi Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, it created the exhibition “A dream among the pines of Riccione. The unrealized project for a villa by Mario Cavallé”.
Many innovations are owed to his studies (Palazzo Maschi - Marcheselli - Lettimi) and some artistic attributions such as those for the Francesco Battaglini frescoes in the Malatesta Temple in Rimini and for the cycle in the Church of San Lorenzo in Bascio di Pennabilli and some paintings in the Museum of Grazie (later exhibited in the exhibition curated in Morciano di Romagna in 2000 "Hidden Stories. Testimonies of spirituality and art at the Museo delle Grazie in Rimini").
For his research he has received some recognitions, among which in 1998, the “dr. Aldo Gaspari” and in 2014, the special prize “Ing. Elios Speroni” of the Banca Popolare Valconca.
Since 2004 he has been a member of ICOM Italia – International Council of Museums and on 8 May 2016 he was appointed Director of the Museum of Saludecio and Beato Amato (dedicated to Santo Amato Ronconi da Saludecio), where he has carried out numerous cultural initiatives and twinnings with other museums that in 2018 earned him the meritorious recognition for the European Year of Cultural Heritage by the European Commission.
With deeds of the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of 29.08.2018 of 25.10.2018, he was appointed Technical Auxiliary of the Judicial Police (art. 348 of the Code of Criminal Procedure).
By deed of the Prefecture of Forlì-Cesena dated 31.10.2018, he was appointed Sole Representative of the peripheral Administrations of the State for specific administrative procedures.
At the Municipal Administrative Elections of 26 May 2019 he was elected Municipal Councilor for the Municipality of Montegridolfo (Province of Rimini) where he was called to hold the position of Councilor for Culture, Tourism and Communication.
