The reality of environmental education in San Marino is theoretically extremely rich and diverse. This assertion is supported by the strong focus on environmental and sustainable development education in the curriculum guidelines for San Marino schools (starting with the San Marino Addendum) and, at the same time, the existence within the Republic of San Marino of numerous centers for the valorization of the local environmental heritage, including flora and fauna and historical and anthropological aspects. Among these, it is sufficient to mention the Natural History Museum, the Ca' Vagnetto Arboretum, and the Canepa Mills Trail. However, there is a lack of analytical analysis of the actual practice of environmental education in schools and of the educational quality of the relationships between the schools themselves and the emerging environmental culture/education initiatives in the area.
Learning outcomes
– Conduct a detailed analysis of the actual presence of environmental education in San Marino schools in terms of the content covered and the methods used
– Specifically analyze the quantitative and qualitative terms of the educational use of environmental education and culture services present in the territory of the Republic
– Analyze the quantitative and qualitative terms of the educational offering present in the above-mentioned services aimed at school and extra-school users, also paying attention to the frequency of tourists
Status of works
The project, included in the 2025-2026 annual research plan, approved by the Department Council in session no. 7/2025 of December 5, 2025, is currently in the data collection phase.
