The design and characteristics of the building foundations were the focus of the seminar "Geological, application and engineering aspects of mixed foundations", held this morning at the headquarters of the Civil Engineering Degree Courses of the University of the Republic of San Marino. The initiative offered a focus on the load-bearing structures of the buildings, concentrating on what are defined as "mixed foundations", i.e. deep foundations designed with different canons than the traditional ones.

Among the speakers were Francesca Dezi, professor at the University of San Marino, Cristiano Guerra, professional and coordinator of the Consulate of Geologists of the Province of Rimini, my colleague Francesco Zorzi and Conrad Mularoni, secretary of the Order of Geologists of Titano. During the seminar, areas such as the utility of mixed foundations, the risks associated with their design and the geological application aspects involved were explored, with respect to which examples related to the San Marino area were proposed.

The event, for which all 100 places available had been booked, was organized by the University of the Republic of San Marino in collaboration with the Order of Geologists of Titano and the Order of Engineers and Architects. It was also sponsored by the Secretariat of State for Territory and the Environment, by the Order of Geologists of the Emilia-Romagna Region, by the Order of Engineers of the Province of Rimini and by the Civil Protection of San Marino.

“Mixed foundations – said Dezi – represent one of the most interesting goals of geotechnical and structural engineering. With this initiative we have tackled the complex issue of soil-pile-plateau interaction from several points of view: geological, geotechnical and structural".
