with final Level 2 Certification in Facility Monitoring (MO)
June 23–25, 2016
c/o University of the Republic of San Marino — Civil Engineering
Ascent to Rocca 44, San Marino city, 23 – 24 June 2016
The monitoring of existing civil structures and infrastructures is of great importance both for the assessment of damage following exceptional events, degradation phenomena, and static settlements and for the preparation of a maintenance plan. Alongside the more traditional static one, dynamic monitoring is gaining in recent years an ever-increasing interest both in the panorama of scientific research and in the professional field. The dynamic parameters, such as natural frequencies and vibration modes of a structure, constitute a snapshot of its current state and repeating the tests over time allows the identification of changes that cannot always be identified with static monitoring. The knowledge of the modal parameters also allows the calibration of finite element structural models that can be used both for the assessment of the seismic vulnerability of the structure and therefore for the design of any interventions, and for the identification of the causes that may have led to changes in the dynamic behavior, such as damage, degradation, changes in structural and non-structural components. Modal analysis is an identification approach of a system based on the determination of its main dynamic parameters: natural frequencies, damping and mode shapes. These parameters can be determined experimentally using two techniques called experimental and operational modal analysis. In the field of civil engineering, modal parameters are currently used for several purposes:
• Response estimation;
• Structural health monitoring;
• Damage identification;
• Refinement of FEM models (model updating).
RECIPIENTS
The seminar is intended for freelancers with a diploma or degree in technical-scientific subjects (engineers, architects, surveyors, building experts, etc.), technical officials of public administrations, researchers and experimenters working in materials testing laboratories and research.
SPEAKERS
Prof. Eng. Fabrizio Gara
Associate Professor of Construction Techniques at the Polytechnic University of Marche where he is currently professor of the courses of Earthquake Engineering, Structural Rehabilitation and Special Structures. PhD in "Mechanics of Structures" at the University of Bologna in 2000 and Degree at the University of Ancona in 1996. Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Sydney in 2004 where for two months he carries out scientific research with Lecturer G. Ranzi and Prof. P. Ansourian. He is the author of more than twenty scientific publications in international journals and about eighty publications presented at international and national conferences.
Engineer Davide Roia
Degree in Civil Engineering and PhD in "Engineering sciences" curriculum "Engineering of structures and infrastructures" at the Polytechnic University of Marche. From 2011 to 2015 she was a research fellow and contract professor for the courses of Reinforced Concrete Structures (AY 2012-13) and Steel Structures (AY 2013-14 and AY 2014-15) at the same University. Since September 2015 Contract professor for the course of Construction Techniques at the University of the Republic of San Marino. Author of several scientific publications of both theoretical and experimental nature published in international journals and presented at numerous international and national conferences.
ORGANIZATION
The seminar, for a total of 32 hours of lessons, is divided into 20 hours of frontal teaching (June 23-24, 2016) and 12 hours taught via the e-learning formula (self-learning by supplying the handouts in electronic format). Participants will obtain a training certificate necessary to be able to take the Level 2 certification exam (25 June 2016) in the field of application of Structure Monitoring (MO), according to the KIWA CERMET Regulation for the "Qualification and certification of technical personnel in charge of non-destructive tests in the field of civil engineering and on cultural and architectural heritage".
VENUE OF THE SEMINAR AND CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION
The site of the technical seminar and of the certification exam will be the University of the Republic of San Marino – Civil Engineering – Salita alla Rocca 44, San Marino city. For information contact Eng. Alessandro Zizzi: Cell. 338 1670441 – email: info@aekEngineering.it
