Location
The Cultural Institutes and the Department of Human Sciences of the University of San Marino are promoting a citizenship education program that uses the language of theatre as its primary research tool. This program includes the revival of the theatre workshop—launched successfully last year—led by actor and theatre researcher Silvio Castiglioni.
The project's goal is to deepen a process of reflection through a structured proposal, capable of grafting itself onto the local area, becoming a cultural event for the entire community, an opportunity for everyone to enrich themselves and develop themselves through the narration of places and spaces that are part of San Marino's identity.
Furthermore, the staging of the work will have the dramaturgical support of poet Franca Mancinelli, in a work of continuous stimulation and exchange with the participants to provide useful elements for adapting texts intended for the stage.
Silvio Castiglioni, actor and theater researcher, with a degree in philosophy, founder of the CRT in Milan and artistic director of the Santarcangelo Festival. He has worked with, among others, Eugenio Barba, Raùl Ruiz, and Federico Tiezzi. He has staged productions based on texts by N. Revelli, A. Zanzotto, S. D'Arzo, F. Dostoevsky, A. Manzoni, N. Pedretti, and R. Baldini. His latest works include Casa Ghizzardi: mi richordo anchora, for the Milan Triennale, and Concerto per Jack London, with Fabrizio Bosso. For many years, he directed the Center for Social and Community Dramaturgy at the CRT in Milan. He currently teaches theater at the Catholic University of Brescia and the Accademia dei Filodrammatici in Milan.
Franca Mancinelli, is the author of the poetry books Mala kruna (Manni, 2007), Pasta madre (with a note by Milo De Angelis, Nino Aragno, 2013), Libretto di transito (Amos edizioni, 2018), published in English translation by The Bitter Oleander Press (Fayetteville, New York) with the title The Little Book of Passage. A re-edition of her first two books is collected in A un'ora di sonno da qui (Italic Pequod, 2018). Her texts are included in the anthology Nuovi poeti italiani 6, edited by Giovanna Rosadini (Einaudi, 2012) and, with an introduction by Antonella Anedda, in the XIII Quaderno italiano di poesia contemporanea, edited by Franco Buffoni (Marcos y Marcos, 2017).

The project is aimed at anyone who feels the need to explore the language of theatre as a tool for knowledge that enables the development of new forms of active participation and social cohesion. Participants will become authors of a narrative built on living testimonies connected to the San Marino region: locations and spaces in the historic center, Borgo Maggiore, and Mount Titano will be used to jointly create a theatrical event.
Duration:
The course will consist of 90 hours of laboratory work and will be structured as follows:
- Saturday 15 December 2018 9.00/12.00 – presentation of the project and collection of registration fees, subsequent meetings will take place approximately during the following weekends of 2019
- Saturday, January 19th and Sunday, January 20th; Saturday, March 16th and Sunday, March 17th; Saturday, April 13th and Sunday, April 14th; Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th; Saturday, May 25th and Sunday, May 26th; Saturday, June 8th and Sunday, June 9th; Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd
Participation fee:
€100,00 (one hundred/00); €50,00 (fifty/00) for those under 18 and university students; the fee must be paid on Saturday, December 15th, at the end of the project presentation, which will take place at the Dogana Social Center (Piazza M. Tini, 7 – Dogana);
The project is curated by the Cultural Institutes – Performing Arts and the Theatre and Citizenship Research and Teaching Centre of the University of the Republic of San Marino
