In recent times, where sustainability and the energy crisis are recurring themes, structural design is intertwined with economics, society, and politics. This multidisciplinary process is well suited to projects involving offshore renewable technologies, such as wind turbines, which represent a more or less mature technology. However, there are still many challenges to be addressed in mass production and the implementation of sustainable wind farms.

SHOT-EARTH:
An innovative and ecological building material

To be used in construction, a new material must be accompanied by a method for creating the recipes and a characterization of its mechanical behavior. Furthermore, its durability must be known. Shot-earth is a new, eco-friendly construction material made from excavated earth, which can also be used for load-bearing structures. Furthermore, shot-earth combines performance with the needs of the construction market, as demonstrated by numerous studies conducted as part of an international partnership between companies and universities.

In the construction sector, increased awareness of sustainable design has demonstrated the feasibility of using aggregates from the demolition of civil engineering structures at the end of their life cycle, thus saving natural materials. Building materials made from recycled aggregates have been shown to maintain good physical, mechanical, and thermal properties, reducing their environmental impact.
