Learning objectives

The course intends to cover the general aspects concerning the main phases for the construction of road infrastructures such as the choice and qualification of the materials used, the construction of the work and the verification tests. At the end of the course the student will have to acquire the basic knowledge for the structural design of roads.

Course content

Materials and road construction: Types of pavements, soils, subsurface and embankment construction, stabilization techniques, aggregates, cement mix, foundation layer construction, bitumen and bituminous binders, bituminous conglomerate, the construction of layers in bituminous conglomerate, the mechanical characteristics of the bituminous conglomerate, special wear layers.
