Learning objectives

Provide knowledge and skills in the field of basic geology and applied geology which make the student aware of the physical reality of the planet earth and of terrestrial materials (rocks and earth) and which are preparatory to the geotechnical course.

Expected follow-up results
Upon successful completion of the course, the student must be able to:

  • Know and understand the principles of earth sciences, the complexity of terrestrial processes and materials-
  • Ability to apply knowledge and understanding to the resolution of simple geological problems (geological sections and reading geological and hydrogeological maps) and applied geology (analysis of soils and rock masses, volcanic, seismic and hydrogeological natural hazards and impacts on groundwater resources).
  • Making judgments about the limits of schematization approaches to complex natural processes
  • Communication skills that allow you to collaborate effectively, sharing language and knowledge bases, with third-party professionals (such as geologists).
  • Ability to learn subsequent subjects of geotechnics, territorial planning and similar.
