Richard Gasperoni

Biographical profile

Riccardo Gasperoni is a civil engineer from San Marino, born on August 25, 1997, with dual citizenship in San Marino and Italy. He is currently a PhD student in Industrial and Land Management Engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. His research focuses on hydraulics, river morphodynamics, and sustainable water resource management, with a strong interest in numerical modeling and environmental analysis applied to civil engineering.

After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (2019) and a Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with honors (2022) from the University of the Republic of San Marino, Riccardo Gasperoni obtained his professional engineering qualification (Section A). He carried out research, first as a research fellow at the University of San Marino and subsequently as a PhD student at UNIMORE, collaborating with the Hydrology and Fluvial Morphodynamics Research Lab. His experience also includes technical internships, numerical modeling, and experimentation in the hydraulic and structural fields.

Main publications

  • Gasperoni, R., Rossi, P., Mancini, F., Moretti, G., & Orlandini, S. (2025). Lidar-Based Modeling of Riparian Tree Impacts on River Flow and Conveyance, Water Resources Research (manuscript submitted).
  • Gasperoni, R., Rossi, P., Mancini, F., Moretti, G., & Orlandini, S. (2024). Two-Dimensional River Flow Modeling With Explicit Description of Woody Vegetation, AGU Fall Meeting Abstracts, Vol. 2024.

Research interests

Riccardo Gasperoni's research interests include numerical modeling of surface flows, analysis of high-resolution digital terrain models, study of the hydrodynamic interaction between flow and vegetation, and optimization of water resource management in multi-use reservoirs. His approach integrates experimental methods, advanced modeling, and GIS tools for the analysis and mitigation of hydrological and hydraulic risks.
