What is the Erasmus+ study mobility program?
The Erasmus+ program, now active for 35 years and named after the historic figure of Erasmus of Rotterdam – the European traveler par excellence – allows university students to have an educational and cultural experience at one of the partner universities.
Erasmus+ offers a unique opportunity to foster intercultural exchange, expand academic, linguistic, and personal skills, while promoting European integration and a spirit of global citizenship.
How long does Erasmus+ mobility last?
The mobility period can vary from a minimum of 2 months to a maximum of 12 months.
Who is the Erasmus+ programme aimed at?
The program is open to students of all study cycles regularly enrolled at UniRSM.
How to participate
To apply, you must respond to the call published by UniRSM each year, which provides details on requirements, timelines, procedures, and partner universities.
ECHE Card
The ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education) is a certification – issued by the European Commission – through which partner institutions commit to respecting the principles of quality and inclusion in international mobility, effectively creating a common European space for learning and growth.
The basic principles guaranteed by the ECHE charter are:
- Quality mobility for students and staff, promoting training and professional experiences abroad.
- Equitable and inclusive access to all the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ Programme, without discrimination.
- Transparency in managing international activities, thanks to clear procedures and standards of excellence.
- European collaboration to foster innovation and internationalisation of higher education.
Through the ECHE and the Erasmus Policy Statement (EPS) 2021-2027, the University of the Republic of San Marino is committed to respecting the fundamental principles of the programme such as inclusion, transparency and non-discrimination and to promoting the participation of individuals with fewer opportunities, environmentally friendly practices and digital management of mobility.

The requirements and procedures for participating in the Erasmus+ program are outlined in the University Call for Applications, which is published annually. Applications are open for the following academic year. The application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic year is April 22, 2025.

financial contribution
The Erasmus+ programme guarantees all winners a scholarship to cover part of the costs of accommodation, travel expenses and living expenses.
The monthly amount of the scholarship is established each year by the National Agency of the Erasmus program and depends on the cost of living in the country where the mobility will take place. Below are the figures for 2024/2025:
- €400,00 for countries in group 1
- €350,00 for countries in group 2 and 3
The calculation of the grant will depend on the actual duration of the mobility period and whether or not the aforementioned period differs from that originally declared on the Certificate of stay.
At the end of the mobility period, the Office will calculate the exact amount and will be able to pay the student a balance or ask for a partial refund of the contribution already received.
Travel Contribution
An additional contribution for the round-trip travel is provided upon presentation of supporting documents at the end of the mobility period. Further details are included in the call for applications.

How does payment work?
The scholarship will be paid directly to the current account indicated in the financial agreement, in two phases:
- an initial deposit of 70% will be paid within 30 days of the student sending the Certificate of Stay stamped by the ERASMUS Office of the host University;
- the balance of the remaining 30%, to be calculated on the basis of the actual days spent on mobility, will be paid upon return, after delivery of all documents and completion of the Beneficiary report and on the basis of the actual allocations that the INDIRE agency pays to the University.
Refunds and reductions
The contributions received are subject to the obligation of total or partial restitution in the event of:
- waiver of mobility period
- stay less than the mandatory minimum period of 60 days
- reduction of the period spent abroad compared to that foreseen in the agreement (this entails a refund corresponding to the number of days not spent abroad)
- failure to complete at least 70% of the curricular activities indicated in the Learning Agreement and consequent recognition of training credits useful in one's study plan
- failure to obtain recognition for activities supported
- failure to request recognition of activities undertaken before obtaining the qualification or refusal of the recognition granted
