The University of San Marino is also present with a project involving the degree course in Design
The Rector of the University of the Republic of San Marino, Corrado Petrocelli, will speak on Friday 19 May at the inauguration of the Titano Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia with a lesson, lasting about 30 minutes, inspired by the title of the space: “Host Guest”.
The ceremony will take place from 17pm inside the Fucina del Futuro (Castello, 5063b) and in the open areas of Calle and Campo San Lorenzo: in addition to the Rector, personalities from the world of culture, institutional representatives, academics and others took the floor.
In addition to the participation of Petrocelli, the University of San Marino is the protagonist of the Pavilion thanks to the role of Commissioner held by Riccardo Varini, director of the degree course in Design.
A research group made up of students and designers has also collaborated, together with colleagues from other academic realities, on a project entitled "Ecology of the other", with a focus on dialogue with local communities.
Specifically, the initiative which sees the involvement of the University of San Marino will occupy one of the two halls of the Pavilion and during the seven months of the Biennale, in the wake of a previous mapping of the needs of the local population, will host a series of activities that will involve teachers, students, artisans, traders, elderly residents of a nearby nursing home and children.
In this context, a number of week-long workshops have been planned, focused on projects related to the needs already expressed by those who live in the area. Finally, the production of furniture, toys, products for the elderly and more is planned.
“The Pavilion is housed inside an insula which represents a typical micro-community of Venice – explains Varini – with the Campo and the Church of San Lorenzo, the neighborhood library, a seat of the municipality and a rest. The location of the complex is, therefore, particularly suitable for implementing co-design projects with the reference community, listening to present needs to implement a multi-year social, economic and environmental strategic plan for the synergistic reactivation of hospitality in the place , within an eco-systemic conception of doing”.
