Artificial intelligence, school and specific learning disabilities: a seminar on opportunities and challenges from the University of San Marino

Registrations open for the event on February 24th, accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education

What could be the role of artificial intelligence in school classrooms, at the service of teachers and with the aim of promoting an inclusive approach to enhance every student, including those with specific learning disabilities? And at the same time, what can this technology do for people with DSA?

These are two of the questions at the basis of a seminar organized by the University of the Republic of San Marino together with Anastasis, a company that deals, among other things, with software for schools, students and clinicians. The title: “dyslexia – artificial intelligence meets specific learning disabilities”.

Scheduled for Saturday 24 February from 9am to 17pm, the initiative includes the participation of figures from organizations such as the British Dyslexia Association and the Ateneo dell'Insubria di Varese. Among them are also Rita Cucchiara, director of the AI Research and Innovation Center of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and Giacomo Stella, director of the Center for the study and applied research on dyslexia and of the Masters on the topic of the University of San Marino.

There is therefore room for the opportunities and obstacles of artificial intelligence, for good practices and for the impact on the lives of younger students and university students, as well as adults with DSA: “The rise of this technology – explains Stella – represents a revolutionary change because it influences not only our way of working, living and interacting, but also radically transforms learning methodologies".

Luca Grandi, educational coordinator of the advanced training course for Learning Technician for DSA at the University of San Marino and scientific co-responsible of the event, agrees with him: "While aggregating data, artificial intelligence joins unique thinking skills of dyslexia to stimulate innovation. If exploited correctly, therefore, it can become a fundamental assistant and play a crucial role in the evolution of educational methods".

The seminar, which will take place online, is sponsored by the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture, the San Marino Dyslexia Association and the Italian Dyslexia Association, with accreditation from the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit. Until January 23rd, registrations include a discounted rate.
