This study analyses the comparability between the Intelligence and Development Scales for Children and Adolescents (IDS-2) , Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) in the cognitive assessment of subjects with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)Both tools are based on the theoretical framework of the model Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC).
The research, conducted on a clinical sample of 16 young adults, aims to verify whether the IDS-2 can represent a valid alternative or diagnostic support to the WAIS-IV in the context of the assessment of learning disabilities. Preliminary results highlight a highly significant correlation between the total Intelligence Quotients (IQ) obtained with the two instruments. In particular, strong convergences emerged between the Verbal Reasoning (IDS-2) and theVerbal Comprehension Index (WAIS-IV), as well as between the Phonological Memory (IDS-2) and theWorking Memory Index (WAIS-IV).
Although the data are still preliminary and research is ongoing, the study suggests that the IDS-2 offers an accurate multidimensional assessment, capable of effectively integrating or supporting the WAIS-IV in clinical practice, providing a detailed overview of the strengths and weaknesses along the developmental trajectories of subjects with ASD.
