Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a transformative force, capable of revolutionizing teaching methodologies, personalizing learning, and offering innovative solutions to address student challenges. This master's thesis aims to explore the role of AI as a compensatory tool for learning disabilities (LD) and analyze the pedagogical implications of its use in education.

Artificial intelligence will first be presented, considering its characteristics, learning methods, different types, and applications. Algorithms and current regulations from a regulatory and ethical perspective will also be discussed.

The second chapter will focus on the evolution of AI in education, the main pedagogical theories related to AI, and its potential implications for teaching, with particular reference to the personalization of learning, the automation of procedures, the simplification of complex tasks, and the resulting reduction in time and resources.

Finally, the final chapter will focus on Specific Learning Disabilities and the use of Artificial Intelligence as a compensatory tool. Different tools will be presented to support reading, writing, arithmetic, and study skills. The Vrailexia project is analyzed as an example of AI application in supporting students with learning disabilities.

The findings highlight how AI is not only an innovative tool for learning disabilities (LDs), but a crucial resource for promoting personalized learning and school inclusion. Furthermore, it can become a valuable ally in improving the well-being and academic success of all students.
