A high-quality Baukultur for Europe — Conference

A high-quality Baukultur for Europe. Examples from the Alpine and Mediterranean context.

The Conference proposes a comparison between experts from 4 countries – Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Malta and San Marino – around the theme of enhancement and enjoyment of the historical, artistic and monumental heritage.

San Marino will illustrate some interventions in favour of the touristic valorisation of its Heritage, focusing on the recent realisation of the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, whose project stems from the renovation and conversion of the Logge dei Volontari designed by architect Gino Zani and overseen in particular by the Cultural Institutes, represented by Director Paolo Rondelli, and the Secretariat for Culture.

San Marino's participation is made possible thanks to the work of the Foreign Office, in the person of the Secretary Nicola Renzi, edited by Dr. Elisabetta Bucci, of the Secretariat for Culture and University, in the person of the Secretary Marco Podeschi, of the Secretariat for the Territory, in the person of the Secretary Augusto Michelotti, of theEmbassy of San Marino in Italy, edited by Councillor Dr. Marina Emiliani and theSwiss Embassy in Italy, San Marino, and Malta.

The program includes, in the morning, the first general speech given by the Secretary of State for Territory, Development and Tourism Augusto Michelotti.

The architect's speech will follow Silvia Santi, director of the Territorial Planning Office, who will define the territorial urban planning strategies that see the National Gallery as the protagonist of a broader redevelopment of the urban, cultural, touristic, and social context of the Historic Center of the City of San Marino.

In the afternoon the professor in design Richard Varini, from the University of San Marino, will focus on the relationship between open museum spaces and participatory education, illustrating some examples of collaboration between the Museum and the University in the fields of applied research and student education.

In particular, three interventions carried out in the last 3 years will be part of the report:

  • The strategic design project for the identity and coordinated image of the State Museums curated for the Cultural Institutes by Gianni Sinni, Riccardo Varini and Ilaria Ruggeri;
  • The proposals of the Web and Multimedia Laboratory, for the Digital Platform Project for a Cultural Institution led by Pietro Costa and Laura Pison with 45 second-year students of the Design Degree Course;
  • The design project of the digital platform for the Sammarinese Cultural Institutes designed by Pietro Costa and Laura Pison;

The conference aims to develop interstate and interuniversity cultural projects between the four participating countries.
