Health literacy, from the Universities of San Marino and Urbino, together with AVIS Senigallia and AST Ancona, a research on the topic

The project was published in the scientific journal “Socio-economic planning sciences”

The international scientific journal "Socio-economic planning sciences," which for over 50 years has covered issues primarily related to public sector decision-making processes, has published an article on a project involving the University of the Republic of San Marino, the Territorial Health Authority of Ancona, the University of Urbino, and the Italian Blood Donors Association (AVIS) of Senigallia.

The topic addressed was health literacy, a term used to indicate a person's ability to interpret and manage information received on the health front and therefore connected to self-care, choices to be made regarding the quality of life and any illnesses to be managed.

As part of a pilot project by the Transfusion Medicine Unit of the Ancona Local Health Authority, 471 blood donors from AVIS Senigallia responded to a 51-item questionnaire. This questionnaire generated a set of data developed by Pietro Renzi, a professor at the University of San Marino, and Alberto Franci of the University of Urbino. In addition to the participants' self-assessments of health literacy, the academics received information on their health status, access to social and health services, and lifestyle, as well as demographic and economic information.

This made possible the analyses proposed in the research, which began in 2024 and concluded with the recent publication in "Socio-economic planning sciences," which effectively confirmed its scientific significance. Among the main objectives was maintaining and improving the population's health.
