How to deal with major threats to international peace and security such as alliances between terrorist groups, civil wars, health crises and the proliferation of nuclear weapons? This is the question that frames the master's degree in International Security Studies at the University of the Republic of San Marino, organized in collaboration with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia with the involvement of soldiers, academics, professionals and more.
The training program, explains Luigi Foffani, co-director of the master's degree, is "in continuity with the degree course in Strategic Sciences organized by the Emilian University and aimed in particular at the officer students of the Italian army". This lays the foundations for a course of study that is aimed at students of various disciplines, to prepare them to make their own contribution both in realities linked "to the business field, for example, and to the Public Administration sector, but not only" . The topics addressed involve subjects curated by "jurists, economists, scholars of Political Science and Geopolitics, as well as computer scientists and security managers".
“The Master – specifies the co-director Roberto Mugavero – is aimed at students and professionals who aspire to access some of the most demanding and currently most requested professional sectors. Participants will be called upon to face a punctual reflection and an articulated discussion on the most important problems of current world affairs and will be able, at the end of the course, to apply a professional approach both to the analysis of problems and to the definition of possible solutions. The teachers - he adds - will guide the students' efforts towards a careful analysis of the current debate on international law and organizations, including the consolidated rules of armed conflicts, as well as on the roles and nature of the traditional sovereign state. Analysis of friction and the parallel search for an acceptable balance between respect for civil liberties and the need to protect national and international security will also be addressed. Specific issues addressed will be related to technology, 'tech companies' and the 'big data' revolution”. Registrations are open until February 4th.
