Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara
The historical evolution of book collection digitization projects, the platform for distributing digitized works, and copyright regulations for original works. Furthermore, open licenses and copyright, collection organization and access to works, and the tools, processes, and phases of digitization will be covered during the seminar "Digitization of Book Collections," scheduled for May 2 and 3 at the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, the headquarters of the University of the Republic of San Marino, located in the historic center of San Marino. Organized by the University Library and the San Marino-based company Data Project Servizi Informatici, in collaboration with the University's Department of Economics, Science, and Law, the 12-hour program features a theoretical component, including practical examples, and group work on specific cases. The event will be coordinated by Antonella De Robbio, copyright coordinator and head of the Digital Library projects sector at the University Library Center of the University of Padua. "The aim of the course is to provide a clear understanding of what a 'digitized library' means, its components, its functions, and the extent to which it involves individuals, institutions, and organizations," says De Robbio, describing the seminar. "The digitization of library collections is one of the strategic directions for which various roles requiring multi-level training are envisaged," she continues. "Digitizing library holdings means transforming the ways in which information is accessed and the way research is conducted. Libraries have a responsibility to ensure global access to their physical collections by creating digital collections from analog copies where copyright, or other types of rights allow." The initiative is aimed at professionals involved in digitization projects and rights management, such as librarians, IT specialists, photographers, and administrative lawyers.
