Senate appointment for the new book by the director of the Research Center for International Relations of the University of San Marino

The volume signed by Michele Chiaruzzi, together with Sofia Ventura, talks about the Ukrainian resistance on an artistic, creative and communication level

How has Ukrainian resistance to the Russian invasion expressed itself on a cultural and communication level, in areas that have involved the artistic, museum and digital dimensions? This question is at the heart of the latest book written by Michele Chiaruzzi, director of the Research Center for International Relations at the University of the Republic of San Marino, together with his colleague from the University of Bologna Sofia Ventura, available from Friday 6 June in the framework of a memorandum of understanding between the two academic entities.

The book, entitled “Why Ukraine Fights – War Communication, Freedom, Europe and Democracy”, is published by Linkiesta Books of Milan: “It is a book on the political and communicative dimension of the ongoing war, on the consequences for the EU and on the process of European integration of Ukraine”, explain the authors. “With the annexation of Crimea and the occupation of Donbas in 2014, and then with the total war launched in 2022, Russia has shown its will to power without calculating, however, that the latter could have been shattered against a symmetrical will to resist. Conducted on the battlefields, in the occupied zones, in everyday life, the Ukrainian resistance has also expressed itself through communication and culture. From this a powerful dialogue has arisen, especially with Western public opinion and diplomacy, to claim its right to exist and reject the post-truth and the alteration of reality induced by the aggression of Putin's Russia”.

A presentation of the work on the Titan is scheduled for June 12 at 18:30 pm at the Grand Hotel San Marino. Chiaruzzi and Ventura are expected to be present, together with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Luca Beccari. On June 19, a new appointment in Rome, in the Isma room of the Senate of the Italian Republic.

“The communication of the war – the authors conclude – has revealed the meaning, for the attacked, of the ongoing conflict. A war for independence, freedom and European integration, which repudiates the imposition of the Russian sphere of influence”.
