River flooding: how to evaluate the risks for correct territorial planning, and how to predict their evolution in real time for effective emergency management? The answers will be the focus of one of the seminars that the University of the Republic of San Marino will organize as part of 'ArchiDays', an exhibition scheduled from 11 to 28 May at Palazzo Graziani with a focus on sustainable architecture and engineering, organized from the Order of Engineers and Architects of the Titan.

Specifically, at 15:30 on Tuesday 16 May two professors of the degree courses in Civil Engineering will take the floor: Giovanni Moretti will address the issue of natural disasters with a speech entitled "The management of hydraulic risk and the prediction of the evolution of flood waves in real time”, while Paolo Foraboschi will talk about innovation in the sector of structures, with reference to scientific and technical progress, collapses and malfunctions.

The participation of the University of San Marino in the review consolidates relations with local professionals after a series of initiatives which, last April 26, involved a meeting held in the university headquarters of the World Trade Center in Dogana during which the students listened to latest updates on internship opportunities and the main dynamics of the sector. Chaired by the presidents of the Order of Engineers and Architects of San Marino, of the Order of Engineers of Rimini and of the College of Surveyors and First Level Graduated Technicians of the Titano: the architect Luca Zanotti, the engineer Roberto Righini and the surveyor Danilo Maiani.

As part of 'ArchiDays', a workshop will also take place on Wednesday 24 May involving ten students of Civil Engineering from the University of San Marino and the same number of Architecture from the Cesena campus of the University of Bologna. Objective: to design housing modules for tourist use together with teachers and professionals. “These are – explains Zanotti – 30 square meter houses that are energy self-sufficient and made with sustainable, reversible and recycled materials. By calling future engineers and architects around the same table, we will confront the youngsters with the balance they will encounter tomorrow in their respective professions”.

Belen Giacomone, professor and internship manager for the Civil Engineering degree courses, agrees with him: “The events we will participate in within the framework of 'ArchiDays' will be fundamental, above all to help our students become aware of the crucial role they will play in the ongoing ecological transition, towards a more sustainable and inclusive future".
