Who will represent San Marino at the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean? The selections are underway

A call for directors, sculptors, performers, designers, musicians, chefs and more is open until October 31st

There will be a maximum of three works representing the Titan at the twentieth edition of the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, selected through a call, expiring on 31 October, open to Sammarinese between 18 and 34 years of age, as well as students and former students of the same age group enrolled at the University of the Republic of San Marino or already graduated.

Space for multidisciplinary and visual artists, directors, writers, performers, musicians, designers and creative chefs, who can also participate in groups: a maximum of six people from San Marino and three young people will be selected from among the students and graduates of the University.

The selected works and performances will be exhibited in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, from May 31st to the end of June 2025 as part of an event that will also involve the city of Gorizia, Italy. The selected artists will be hosted from the beginning of the event to June 4th.

“This event, known internationally by the acronym BJCEM, has been the launch pad for important artists and represents a great opportunity for sharing and training to present one's project in front of curators and experts in a wide-ranging showcase,” explains Karen Venturini for the University of San Marino.

“The theme of the Biennale, entitled Mediterranea 20, is that of borders. It is no coincidence that it will take place in two cities, Gorizia and Nova Gorica, tormented by gates, walls and railings designed to maintain almost non-existent distances between two territories, cultures, nations and religions. We are therefore expecting works that revolve around the themes of breaking down borders and building identities”.

Three dimensions are suggested by the curators of the call: forum, forms and food. "Art - concludes Venturini - does not require those who enjoy it to speak the same language because it implies a universal code. It is therefore a tool that can be used to go beyond borders and conflicts".

In 2021, the Biennale took place in San Marino as part of a journey that since 1985 has touched places such as Barcelona, Bologna, Valencia, Lisbon, Turin, Rome, Sarajevo, Athens, Naples, Bari and the Puglia Region, Skopje, Thessaloniki and Rome, Ancona, Milan, Tirana and Durres.
