Xu Guang Guang, executive president of the Italian Association of Poetry, Calligraphy and Chinese Painting, curated a workshop for 55 students from the University of the Republic of San Marino, as part of the three-year degree program in Design.
Using special brushes, paper, and inks, on Tuesday, December 20th and Wednesday, December 21st, participants encountered a discipline "capable of occupying a special place in the field of fine arts," explains instructor Karen Venturini. "Chinese writing, thanks to its uniqueness, is not only a means of communication, but also a means of expressing aesthetics and culture."
Hence, an initiative carried out within the framework of the Drawing Workshop for the project curated by instructor Orsetta Rocchetto. "By playing with brush and ink on paper, varying the speed of the strokes and the thickness of the lines, the master calligrapher manages to communicate his or her state of mind," Venturini continues. "In 2009, the art of calligraphy was included by UNESCO among the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity."
Xu Guang Guang, primarily active in the martial arts world and founder of the "Jing Qi Shen" school, has participated in exhibitions in Rome, Milan, and Florence, as well as in China, Japan, and Singapore.
