Communicating in healthcare, from patient relations to social media: the second edition of the University of San Marino course has concluded.

Certificates will be awarded to participants in the Advanced Training program today at the ISS: registration for 2026 is now open.

The dialogue between doctor and patient in the clinic, the relationships between different nurses in a particular department, the interaction between hospital management and its staff. These are some examples of the areas covered in the Advanced Training Course in Healthcare Communication at the University of the Republic of San Marino, which concluded today, Wednesday, November 19, with a certificate ceremony for 19 professionals working in the field. The number of participants doubled compared to the previous edition. And the next one is fast approaching: registration, already open, closes on November 24.

The 2025 curriculum was updated compared to the previous one: "Ten hours of training have been added to analyze some key topics in even greater detail," explained Claudio Muccioli, scientific director of the program, on the sidelines of the event held at the State Hospital. "A new in-depth study on digital communication has also been introduced, conducted in collaboration with Carla Tomasini. Drawing on the experience of the Instagram profile 'pediatracarla', which she manages with over half a million followers, she has provided valuable content and tools for outreach."

The effects of the Advanced Training program are reflected on several levels: "It doesn't just concern the relationship between those who provide care and those who receive care and vice versa," Muccioli explained, "but also the relationships between colleagues, both in everyday activities and in specific projects, with particular attention paid to sharing and sharing one's profession, with benefits for the entire community." Among the beneficiaries, in addition to doctors and nurses, are "psychologists and, in general, all those with management responsibilities in the healthcare sector."

The topics covered include communicating the diagnosis to the patient, listening, emotional pain, potential conflicts between colleagues, stress, and more.

The ceremony was also attended by the Director General of the Institute for Social Security (ISS), Claudio Vagnini, along with representatives of two organizations that, together with the Order of Psychologists, sponsored the initiative: the President of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists, Massimo Montanari, and the President of the Order of Nursing Professions of San Marino, Luca Tinti.
