A public event on Monday 27 May with screenings, readings and speeches
Twelve 16 mm films shot between the 50s and 70s, together with almost one hundred Super 8 films for a total of 1.170 minutes of video, are now part of the Multimedia Archive of San Marino Memories, managed by the University of the Republic of San Marino and completed by a section dedicated to texts with sports stories, linked to emigration and more.
Approximately a year and a half after the first appeal in which the collaboration of anyone was requested to collect the material, on Monday 27 May the University of San Marino will offer a first presentation of the work done with a public event in which some films will be screened and various lectures written testimonies, also taking stock of the activities and prospects of a project closely linked to the territory and the community.
“We now have films of events such as the passage of the 1954 cycling Tour of Italy to San Marino, a pigeon shooting competition of the same year and the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1982”, explains Elena D 'Amelio, responsible for the video part. The operations, he specifies, did not only have the aim of collecting and sharing the material, but also of conserving and above all protecting it: "In this sense, all the 16mm films were digitised, i.e. the most delicate and at greatest risk of deterioration, thanks to a partnership with the Home Movies Bologna Foundation”.
The video section also includes around thirty DVDs made between 1990 and 2010, while the texts include autobiographies, letters and diaries. “I'm thinking, for example, of the story of a trip to France by the Under 13 team of Virtus of Acquaviva, signed by an active figure in the world of football”. These are the words of Patrizia Di Luca, who coordinates the part dedicated to written memories: "In 2004, two buses left San Marino, the first with the Castello council, the sports managers, the players and their families, the second with the flag-wavers , the musicians and figures of the San Marino Crossbowmen Federation. The text, like many others, contributes to the collective memory of our community, especially interesting for the younger generations, through memories, thoughts and reflections."
The event on May 27th, scheduled from 17pm in the former Court building, in the historic center, will see speeches by the scientific director of the Memory Studies Center, Patrizia Violi, by the scientific consultant Mario Panico and by the cataloging manager, Claudia Gattei. In addition to D'Amelio and Di Luca, the floor goes to Valentina Rossi and Giuseppe Giardi.
The Multimedia Archive of San Marino Memories operates in collaboration with the National Diary Archive of Pieve Santo Stefano and the Home Movies Bologna Foundation. Free admission.
