Paul Forte, a researcher at the British University of Bath, introduced it to students, ISS figures and beyond
A system developed to optimize the economic and human resources involved at a socio-health level in the care of the elderly and long-term patients, as well as the organization involved in this area in the area, was at the center of a seminar organized by the University of the Republic of San Marino and took place on Thursday 9 May at the headquarters of the Management Engineering degree courses, in Dogana. In the audience, in addition to the students of the master's training course, professionals from institutions such as the Institute for Social Security (ISS) and Casa Valloni, a Rimini residence for the elderly.
The model was introduced by Paul Forte, a researcher at the University of Bath, in England, where he is active within the framework of the Center for Healthcare Innovation and Improvement: the result of an approach developed over almost 40 years, it provides a system based on the development of data collected from the main subjects involved in the sector, from doctors to hospital managers, from politicians to nurses, from volunteers to carers, from any associations involved in the area to the patients themselves, also taking into account the spaces and availability of the departments of the various structures , nursing homes and so on.
“The underlying question – specifies the professor of the University of San Marino Pietro Renzi, who introduced the initiative together with his colleague Alberto Franci – concerns the allocation of economic resources, the workforce and more, considering first and foremost the needs of the population , indicated as a central element towards which to guarantee maximum service, calibrated in this case to the needs of the elderly and long-term residents. Therefore, based on how many funds are available, the staff and many other characteristics, it is possible to hypothesize an optimal organization that increases efficiency and effectiveness, while reducing any inconvenience and waste".
In light of the data cited by Forte, according to which in the Italian peninsula the population over 65 in 2030 will reach 27,1% of the total compared to the 24% estimated at European level, attention towards services for the elderly becomes strategic : “Precisely for this reason – continues Renzi – the colleague from the University of Bath gave us a version of the model that we are sharing with the guests present at the seminar, so that they can verify how and whether to take action to experiment with it. In this sense - concludes the academic - seeing figures in the room such as the director of the healthcare activities of the ISS and other personalities of our hospital, together with those of prestigious Italian realities in the neighboring areas, can only confirm the value of this type of insights offered by the University of San Marino".
The event took place under the patronage of the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture, the Secretariat of State for Health and Social Security, the Authority for the authorization, accreditation and quality of health services , socio-health and socio-educational.
