From the University of San Marino, in three years, over 140 projects for the territories

During the Territorial Pact the University asked for support to finance research; critical issues on accommodation and external services were reported

Over the past three years, the University of the Republic of San Marino has curated over 140 projects within the framework of the “Third Mission”, a formula used to describe the activities developed outside the strictly academic confines to disseminate knowledge, services and more in the territory of San Marino and its surroundings, both in an institutional context and in partnership with companies and other types of organizations, in the collective interest.

The details were summarized yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 25 September, during the meeting of the Territorial Pact, an assembly convened by the University which was attended by representatives of some of the main entities of San Marino in the public and private sectors, including the banking and financial world, institutions and associations.

At the Dogana university campus, projects were mentioned that involved, for example, the Venice Art and Architecture Biennials, as well as an initiative developed together with the prestigious car brand Ferrari and the redevelopment of the Domagnano park and the Bruno Reffi field, in addition to competitions, seminars, lessons, exhibitions and courses to which are added research on the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's, on foreign women in San Marino, on support teachers, the introduction of multilingualism in schools and much more.

The description of the initiatives, which ranged from the production and management of artistic and cultural products to clinical trials, from health protection to the creation of social and educational goods, contributed to a debate opened by the Director General of the University of San Marino, Laura Gobbi, who envisaged a growth for the University facilitated by entry into the European Higher Education Area. “In this regard,” she stated, “we will build a special internal office that will deal with European planning to have the possibility of intercepting calls for research and entering initiatives supported by specific funds.”

This detail is part of a broader ambition, which requires the support of the entire country: "In the coming years we want to grow and to do so we need the support of the territory. Research is becoming increasingly crucial, to maintain the levels of quality we have achieved. But significant funds are needed".

Gobbi's words, collected by Massimo Brignoni, delegate for the activities of the "Third Mission". Looking at the three-year period 2021 - 2023, the academic cited in particular "55 activities and projects with PA structures". And again, outside the border, "initiatives for Pesaro Italian Capital of Culture 2024 and the Museum of Ceramics in Imola".

Leonardo Tagliente, delegate for budget and business relations, recalled that “the University boasts a fairly enviable placement rate, given that we have almost no unemployed people among our graduates”. At the same time, he noted, there is “research, which requires everyone’s contribution. Companies, which are recipients of the output of our activity, should feel the stimuli and impulses to contribute and support our organization”.

The meeting opened with a speech by the Secretary of State for Education and Culture, Teodoro Lonfernini, who described the University of San Marino as an “integral element for the growth of the country, a forge capable of producing the human capital necessary to continue on a positive path. If the University succeeds in being the driving force of this ambition – he stated – I will be happy because it will mean that we will have accomplished essential and useful work in the service of the community”.

In the last part of the Territorial Pact, there is space for debate with the reporting of some critical issues: above all the student residence, now absent, the initiatives and services for free time dedicated to members, transport and the general situation of accommodation and hospitality.
