Two of the finalists of the 2017 edition of “DiMMi Multimedia Migrant Diaries“, a national literary competition open to the testimonies of those who have decided to leave behind their lives in another country and currently live in Italy or on Titan, will be the focus of the presentation of the ten autobiographies selected during the initiative and collected in the volume “Words Beyond Borders – Ten Migrant Stories,” published by Terre di Mezzo, with stories that speak of situations such as Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Albania, Venezuela, Liberia, Ghana, and Pakistan.
Scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in the Aula Magna of the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, the event will feature Joy Ehikioya and Ibrahim K. Jalloh, along with Patrizia Di Luca, head of the Emigration Research Center at the University of the Republic of San Marino; Patrizia Violi, director of the Center for Studies on Memory at the University of San Marino; Alessandro Triulzi, director of the Migrant Memories Archive; and Natalia Cangi, director of the Pieve Santo Stefano Diary Archive. Open to the public, the meeting will be broadcast live on Usmaradio.
"The DiMMi Storie Migranti project, supported this year by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, has already involved hundreds of people from other countries," explains Di Luca. "The testimonies of those who participated in the competition offer us the opportunity to learn about the experience of migrants, the arduous journeys to reach Europe, but also about life in their countries of birth. They also offer stories about the reasons for their departure, whether due to economic hardship, the need to escape war and violence, or to find refuge from prejudice and persecution, which lead to dangerous social marginalization. Listening to their voices brings us closer to all those who come from other countries."
On the afternoon of April 9th, Joy Ehikioya and Ibrahim K. Jalloh will also speak at 6:00 PM during a presentation scheduled for the Italian Embassy in San Marino, which is sponsoring the event together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Admission to the event is free, subject to availability.
Priority will be given to those who have reported their participation to the Secretariat of the Italian Embassy, which can be reached by email or by telephone at the contacts segreteria.sanmarino@esteri.it and 0549 991146.
The 2019 edition of the "DiMMi Storie Migranti" competition is open until April 30, 2019. Among the 47 promoters is the Emigration Research Center of the University of San Marino. More information is available at www.dimmidistoriemigranti.it.
