Appointment on November 25th at 14:30 pm with academics, students and artists
Art, the body, freedom. These are the themes of a roundtable discussion organized by the University of the Republic of San Marino as part of the initiatives planned on San Marino to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. On Friday, November 25, starting at 14:30 PM, in the Aula Magna of the university campus at the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara in the historic center, the panel will feature artist Rita Canarezza, Luigi Guerra, Director of the Department of Human Sciences, Elena D'Amelio, Professor of Media and Gender Studies, and Iranian student Masha Salimi, along with moderator Karen Venturini.
Canarezza, author of the work "Pace," which has characterized Piazzale Calcigni since 1996, representing a lock of hair on the facade of the structure that houses the arrival point of the elevators ascending from Piazza delle Nazioni Unite, will offer her contribution with a talk entitled "The Body and Hairstyle in Contemporary Art."
Hence an analogy highlighted by the organizers of the Gender Identity Education Laboratory at the University of San Marino, which recalls the windswept hair of the sculpture 'Flowing Free', a project by architect and designer Tim Fu for the main square of Tehran, the capital of Iran, to denounce the repression of women in the Middle Eastern country.
“For Iranian women, as for all women, hair is a sign of beauty that in the Islamic Republic is decreed to be covered by the veil,” comments Salimi. “Throughout Iranian history, when women lacked the power and voice to defend themselves, they cut their hair. It has always been a symbol of rebellion: in the epic poem 'Shahnameh,' hair is torn out in an act of mourning, when fury is stronger than power and the oppressor. It represents beauty, freedom, and strength.”
The initiative is aimed at the university community, school administrators and teachers, social services staff, law enforcement, lawyers, judges, and others. Admission is free.
