The numbers on San Marino health care in a degree thesis discussed today at the University of San Marino

“Life expectancy in San Marino is approximately one year higher than in the area” of the Marche region which includes Pesaro, Urbino and Fano, “for both males and females. The infant mortality rate, on the contrary”, in the last 5 years “turns out to be higher in the republic”. These are some of the data contained in the thesis with which Michael Mularoni from San Marino obtained his three-year degree in Management Engineering at the University of the Republic of San Marino this morning. Author of an experimental research on the evaluation of performance in social-health services which saw the collaboration of the Titan Health Authority, the 22-year-old compared the numbers of the San Marino reality and those of the Marche area, also noting that "as regards the coverage of vaccinations in children and the elderly, the situation is not the best for the republic: those against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and poliomyelitis are lower; while the coverage for rubella, measles and mumps is average. The situation is instead critical for the elderly vaccinated against the flu, who amount to just over half” compared to the area that includes Pesaro, Urbino and Fano (26,3% against 46,3%)”. Within the study, which saw the Italian professor Alberto Franci as rapporteur and Pietro Renzi from San Marino as co-rapporteur, Mularoni analyzed the quality of care and its effectiveness, noting "good survival rates for breast cancer". Lower “those relating to survival for cervical cancer (68%) and for colon cancer (54%)”. Among the data collected also those on daily smokers: "15% for San Marino and 20%" in the Marche areas involved in the study. Alcohol consumption is rated "average".

The thesis discussed today by the 22-year-old Lorenzo Castellani from Rimini also has a San Marino dimension. He analyzed the distribution logistics of the Colombini Group, where he underwent an internship. “We analyzed data for a quarter, examining everything that revolves around the shipment of a product,” reads the research. "Starting from a general analysis of the performance of transport logistics, we went into detail by breaking down and specifically examining all the processes that make it up".

A total of seven students graduated today in Management Engineering at the University of San Marino. Six theses are experimental. Enrollments for the three-year degree course for the 2017 — 18 academic year are open until 31 October.
