For the first time, non-registered professionals and artists will also be able to participate: partners include the Sammarinese Commission for UNESCO and Scart of the Hera Group.
The next edition of the University of the Republic of San Marino's Design Workshops, scheduled for September 12th to 17th, will be open to 30 people who are not enrolled at the University of San Marino or who are enrolled at other academic institutions.
For the first time, professionals, artists, and creatives interested in the fields covered in three of the four in-depth programs, organized in three different locations, will be able to apply for the initiative, organized by the Design degree programs.
The Republic and its surrounding territory will therefore be the focus of a series of workshops to enhance the cultural heritage, landscape, and communities of small fortified towns, thanks to an initiative that is part of an international research project entitled "Stretch the Edge – A Community Design Approach for Regenerating Small Fortified Towns." The Universities of San Marino, Bologna, and Beijing are involved.
Incidentally, an online questionnaire was launched in recent days, dedicated to the San Marino area. Its goal is to map and represent the habits and expectations of San Marino residents regarding cultural and environmental activities, among other things, and thus to develop medium- and long-term projects and interventions. Open to all, the survey is currently available in the "news" section of the website www.unirsm.sm.
Also planned among the four scheduled workshops is a collaboration with the Scart project of the Hera Group, a provider of energy, water, and other services, which involves several Italian universities and academies in a process of raising awareness and responsibility among designers regarding the recovery and regeneration of industrial and urban waste.
For more information and to register for the workshop, titled "Contamin_azioni erranti," please consult the call for applications at design.unirsm.sm. Applications close on September 6th.
WORKSHOP SHEETS OPEN TO EXTERNAL PARTICIPATION
The "Video-Serigraphs of Living" workshop, conceived by the DCC in collaboration with a collective of Belgian artists including Simon Medard, Vincent Evrard, and Raphael Parmentier, aims to be a visual-sound design laboratory to reimagine the landscape of Pennabilli. It will conclude with an installation in the town's historic center: a large "moving fresco" in which voices, texts, sounds, and images of the area will convey a vision of the landscape and a reflection on the poetic and emotional meaning of living.
The experimental workshop "Self-as-other-trainings," led by designers Vivien Tauchmann and Michael Kaethler, explores topics such as climate change and ecology. The aim is to design new ways to interact with the natural world by establishing forms of communication, understanding, and empathy. Body, sound, touch, and movement are tools for designing new relationships, developing creative communication connections, and promoting empathic interactions of thinking and living with nature.
The workshop "Connecting Communities: Design for the Enhancement of Cultural Heritage," in partnership with the Italian Museomix community, explores local activation issues aimed at improving the appropriate and distinctive use of cultural heritage through co-design activities and tools.
