Over one hundred figures including representatives of companies and public bodies, professionals, academics and students from the Marches, Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo attended the international conference "High performance and low environmental impact flooring", scheduled this morning in the sala Montelupo di Domagnano thanks to the organization of the degree course in Civil Engineering of the University of the Republic of San Marino, of the Autonomous State Company for Public Works (AASLP) and of Ecopneus, a non-profit company that every annually takes care of the collection and treatment of approximately 220.000 tons of discarded tyres.
The interventions offered during the initiative, which saw Jorge Sousa among the main speakers, a past collaborator for entities such as the Ministry of Transport of Quebec and the Washington Department of Transportation, outlined a series of perspectives on the use of recycled rubber from discarded tires within the mixtures used for asphalt, with the aim of creating less noisy roads, more resistant to instability and with better grip. These are eco-sustainable technologies currently at the center of research by the University of San Marino, which collaborates in this area with administrative bodies of territories such as San Marino, Rimini, Fano, Senigallia and Riccione.
