The 'father' of Pimpa, working for organizations such as the newspaper La Repubblica and Il Friday, guest of the degree course in Design
Francesco Tullio-Altan, cartoonist and cartoonist famous for having developed characters such as La Pimpa and the metalworker Cipputi alternating lightness and social criticism, took the chair for one of the workshops which from 18 to 23 September involved a total of forty students of the degree in Design from the University of the Republic of San Marino.
Together with a selection of a dozen members, one of the most appreciated authors of the peninsula has curated a path entitled "Satire and design between illustration and communication", as part of a broader series of four in-depth studies dedicated to themes and activities such as theater and the reuse of paper.
“Participating in a workshop is something I have never done in my life,” revealed the cartoonist during an interview with Usmaradio, the University's broadcaster. “The philosophy is to put kids in contact with people who don't do” the job of designer, to open together with them “windows on the world, on how to work depending on the abilities that each one has”.
In this sense, the invitation from the leaders of the Design degree course of the University of San Marino came to Altan due to "my ability to summarize and grasp key points about what is happening. Something that – he stated – could also be useful to students”.
Author of over 150 books and currently involved in cartoons that appear in the newspapers La Repubblica and Il Friday, Altan has thus given his contribution as part of an initiative, that of the workshops, which in this edition was divided into two different locations : in addition to the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, in the historic center of Titano, the degree course was involved in the previous days, to be precise from 4 to 9 September, in two full immersions linked to the contents of the San Marino pavilion at the Biennale of Architecture, in Venice. Furthermore, two other in-depth studies are currently underway in the Venetian capital which will run until 16 October.
