The commander of the Gendarmerie, Maurizio Faraone, and the director of the Security Training Center of the University of San Marino, Roberto Mugavero, will be the protagonists of the seminar "Terrorism: phenomenology, financing and radicalization processes", organized by the University of the Republic of San Marino and scheduled for Saturday 19 September from 10 am in the Salita alla Rocca 44 university building, in the historic center of Titano. There are two ways to participate for members: face-to-face, in compliance with current protocols, or online on the Teams platform.
During the initiative, which is part of the Master's in Criminology and Forensic Psychiatry, three main themes will be addressed: disinformation and fake news as 'weapons' of unconventional conflict, new scenarios for security and intelligence deriving from the analysis of a case related to COVID-19 and terrorism, the coordination of relief agencies in the event of a terrorist attack.
“Among the speakers – explains the scientific director Elga Marvelli – will be Maurizio Carmassi, who was chief police inspector and highly appreciated trainer of the forces of order. The topics that will be addressed during the seminar include the use by terrorists of fake news to create panic through disinformation and the different types of attacks employed, from suicide bombers to lone shooters. Some technical-operational and other scientific analyzes are therefore foreseen. With this cycle of seminars - continues the academic - we want to address current issues by calling figures from various sectors to the chair, to make different professionals think together by stimulating dialogue, knowledge and awareness".
Saturday's initiative is part of a series of nine insights, which began on 12 September and is scheduled to run until 28 November, during which academics, law enforcement officials and others address issues such as the fight against gender-based violence and bullying.
The appointments are aimed at those enrolled in the Master, as well as criminologists, jurists and professionals active in the legal and economic sectors, law enforcement and security operators, civil servants, doctors, psychiatrists, social and health personnel, sociologists, psychologists, teachers and educators.
The seminars are held under the patronage of the Directorate General of Public Administration and the Equal Opportunities Authority. Appointments are possible thanks to the involvement of the European Center for Emergencies and Catastrophe Medicine (CEMEC - Council of Europe), the University of Sassari, the Center for Research and Education in Biomedical Studies, the Legal Institute of San Marino, of the Department of Human Sciences and of the University Center for Security Training of the University of San Marino.
