The Aula Magna of the Department of History and the Law Institute of the University of the Republic of San Marino was named after Lanfranco Ferroni during a ceremony yesterday, Wednesday, June 8, in the historic center of San Marino, attended by academics, institutional representatives, family members, and others.
"This is the first of a series of initiatives in his memory that we have in the pipeline," said Rector Corrado Petrocelli, remembering the former Pro-Rector of the University of San Marino and Director of the Law Institute, who passed away in 2018. "He stood out for his work, commitment, and humanity," he continued from the former Courthouse, "never holding back and representing a constant point of reference for all of us. We immediately felt his absence," Petrocelli said, "and understood what San Marino and our University had lost."
For his part, the Secretary of State for Education and Culture, Andrea Belluzzi, applauded the decision to dedicate to Ferroni a place that had previously hosted hearings of the San Marino Court: "This is a gesture rich in meaning; we cannot remain indifferent to this."
"If there's one value we shared, it's that of giving our students the utmost attention," said the current director of the Law Institute, Paolo Pascucci. "Here, we continue what Ferroni began. He had a special bond with San Marino; he often said that we lawyers had a duty to nurture this institution."
Representing the family, their son Matteo also spoke at the ceremony: "We feel honored," he explained. "This initiative moves us. It was our father's intention to settle here, because he felt San Marino was his home, where he felt comfortable and appreciated."
