The birth of San Marino's banking system in a new book from the University of San Marino's Historical Studies series.

The forty-first volume of the San Marino series of historical studies, edited by the Department of History, Culture, and San Marino History of the University of the Republic of San Marino, will be presented on Tuesday, January 30, at 16:30 PM at the university campus in the Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, in the historic center of San Marino. The book, titled "The Birth of the Banking System in San Marino — Monti di Pietà, Cassa di Risparmio, Banca Mutua Popolare, and Catholic Institutions, 1850 — 1940," was edited by Francesco Chiapparino, professor of Economic History at the Polytechnic University of Marche, who will introduce the text along with Ercoli Sori, director of the Sammarinese Center for Historical Studies, Biagio Bossone, president of the Sammarinese Banking Association, and Sergio Barducci, editor-in-chief of San Marino RTV.

The introduction states, "The volume traces the emergence and initial, partial consolidation of modern credit institutions in San Marino between the second half of the 19th century and the first forty years of the 19th century." It will then offer in-depth studies on topics such as the birth and initial evolution of the Cassa di Risparmio, the Banca Mutua Popolare, the Banca Agricola Industriale, and the Cassa Rurale di Faetano. "Looking back to a past that may seem remote," the text continues, "allows us to grasp some of the roots, underlying reasons, and constants that still inform the positions and choices of the banking system today and, to a certain extent, of San Marino society and its ruling classes as a whole."

The presentation will be attended by the Secretary of State for Finance, Simone Celli, and the Secretary of State for Education and Culture, Marco Podeschi. Admission is free.
