An analysis capable of "assessing the impact of programs on health equity and implementing increasingly effective policies to reduce disparities in this area." This is the content of the book "Performance in Healthcare Systems and Unequal Health," published by Maggioli Editore by Pietro Renzi and Alberto Franci, professors of the Management Engineering degree program at the University of the Republic of San Marino.
"The evolving economic and legislative landscape in the healthcare sector," the two academics explain, "is now encouraging all healthcare and social services to develop a culture of performance. Current initiatives in this area are primarily focused on quality, risk management, and cost containment, but they pay little attention to management that addresses all stakeholders in the healthcare process, both internally and externally, the company's performance, and the social economy."
The text, Renzi and Franci further emphasize, aims to demonstrate that "global and integrated performance in the management of medical and social services is essential for collective and responsible management, i.e., a factor in efficiency for all. It also provides tools for implementing global performance in healthcare organizations, managing spending growth, increasing productivity, and reducing costs." Finally, the book "emphasizes the need to educate the various stakeholders on the analysis of health inequalities and their determinants. This is achieved through the examination of specific indicators capable of diagnosing the diversity present in specific areas. It is hoped that this latter analysis will lead to a more accessible understanding of equity trends and a better understanding of the causes of these inequalities."
