Artist Laurie Anderson joins the advisory board of the University of San Marino's new Radio Research Center.

The project revolving around Usmaradio, the radio station of the University of the Republic of San Marino, is expanding with the creation of the University of San Marino's Interdepartmental Research Center for Radio. The Center will have an advisory board of a dozen artists from around the world. Among them is American Laurie Anderson, an avant-garde musician, author, and performer working across multiple disciplines, from film to photography.
The new organization, which will be presented with live radio and online broadcasts at 5:00 PM on Saturday, January 30, represents a further step in the journey that saw the creation of Usmaradio in 2017, alongside the activities of the Radio School: "With the former, we focused on content creation and broadcasting, with the latter on training," explains director Roberto Paci Dalò. "From now on, we will also conduct research, with the opportunity to experiment and involve leading figures on the international scene."
By the way, in addition to the composition of the advisory board, "which includes prominent figures who will act as guarantors of the quality of our work," projects are in the works that include "periods in which radio makers and artists from Italy and abroad will reside in San Marino to perform two main roles: first, contributing to the Research Center's experiments, and second, communicating the San Marino story to the outside world, using their own channels."
The new facility, "dedicated to radio in all its aspects, is the only one of its kind in Italy and among the few in the world," explains Paci Dalò. "The Research Center also places the University of San Marino at the forefront of international radio practice, with pedagogies based on a relationship between theory and practice, encompassing podcasting, live radio, radio art, sound art, soundscape," and more. "Researchers, students, and faculty will work together to experiment and create a meeting place for people from all disciplines. Artists, scientists, activists, researchers, and scholars," concludes the director of Usmaradio, "will pay particular attention to gender identity and minorities."
The presentation of the Research Center can be followed live on the radio on www.usmaradio.org, while the online one will be available on the issuer's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/usmaradio. In addition to Paci Dalò and the station manager Alessandro Renzi, the Rector Corrado Petrocelli and some members of the scientific council of the Research Center will participate: Francesco Giomi (director of Tempo Reale of Florence), Carola Haupt and Ilaria Gadenz (Radio Papesse) and Iolanda Pensa ( president of Wikimedia Italy and SUPSI senior researcher).
