This event will analyze the key stages of San Marino's rapprochement with the European Union, seeking to understand its role and objectives. This is the final session of the seminar series "The Land of the Free – the Freedoms of Europe," in which the Research Center for International Relations of the University of the Republic of San Marino has offered a series of insights into the relationship between San Marino and the EU in light of the integration process currently underway in the Republic, which is engaged in negotiating an agreement with Brussels regarding the free movement of goods, people, capital, and services. The seminar, titled "The European Integration Process and San Marino's Journey," will feature a presentation by Giuliana Laschi, Jean Monnet Chair ad personam in the History of European Integration, who will speak at 17:30 PM tomorrow, Monday, May 23, at Palazzo Graziani, San Marino City. "The narrative of the international system often focuses on describing the locus of decision-making among the great powers," Laschi explains, summarizing the contents of his speech. "But the twentieth century also saw the emergence of other attempts to create relationships within the world that were not based on the power system. Certainly," he continues, "the integration process involves the attempt to maintain European power, but also to create diverse, more peaceful and equal relations. The integration process, therefore, is a space in which, by treaty, a system in which the great powers swallow up other member or associated states does not exist."
