Ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara
Over 40 hours of lessons collected under the title "Oratory and history", with a focus on characters such as Lincoln, Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler and Luther. This is what is scheduled between Monday 26 September and Saturday 22 October in the context of the Research Doctorate in Historical Sciences of the University of the Republic of San Marino, which offers a series of appointments in which the leading academic experts in the sector will take the chair : from Emanuela Prinzivalli and Manlio Simonetti of the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' to Massimo Salvadori of the University of Turin, from Gabriele Pedullà of the Roma Tre University to Giorgio Ieranò of the University of Trento. And then Lutz Klinkhammer from the German Historical Institute in Rome, Carlo Ginzburg from UCLA in Los Angeles, Adriano Prosperi from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Giuseppe Galasso from the 'Federico II' University in Naples, Mario Alberto Labate from the University of Florence, Franco Cardini of the Institute of Human and Social Sciences of Florence and, finally, Luciano Canfora, director of the Department of History, Culture and History of San Marino at the Ateneo del Titano. “Since ancient times – explains the scientific director of the School of Historical Studies of the University of San Marino, Paulo Butti de Lima – references to history have played an important role in the field of political action. The interpretation of the past has served to justify the present actions of politicians, cities and nations. In today's political oratory words like 'Europe', 'West', 'East' or 'democracy' are constantly pronounced and cannot be understood unless they are placed in a precise historical context. Political memory serves as a tool for action and is often constructed or manipulated to enable men in power to achieve practical goals. Even in the religious sphere, in speeches aimed at winning followers and justifying the faith, historical themes are not absent: this can be true in the most varied circumstances, for example among the first Christians, among the crusaders or among the reformers in Luther's time" . The lessons, open to the public, will take place in the Aula Magna of the University of the Republic of San Marino, in Contrada Omerelli 20, in the historic center of Titano. The detailed program is available on the website www.unirsm.sm, in the "news" section.
