The Academic Senate and University Council have independently decided to apply a 10% reduction to all emoluments arising from positions, positions, and contracts of various types, as a tangible sign of the University of San Marino's sense of responsibility in this difficult time and of solidarity, particularly towards students and their families. Part of the significant savings resulting from this reduction will be used to finance the 10% reduction in the third installment for students in all degree programs, and the payment deadline will be extended to June 30th.
This is the announcement made today by the Rector of the University of the Republic of San Marino, Corrado Petrocelli, in a letter sent to students. On Wednesday, April 22nd, he explained, the Academic Senate and the University Council "have, after lengthy and participatory discussion, unanimously approved a measure that we believe to be of great significance and which we must and wish to share with you."
Among the reasons is the evolving dynamics of COVID-19 in San Marino, which "has prompted us to demonstrate our shared responsibility." There is also "another difficulty, equally, if not, for us, even more significant. It is the one reported by many students and their families, who are often struggling to meet the deadline for paying the third installment of tuition fees and are requesting installment plans, reductions, or extensions." To them too, the Rector specifies, "we wish to express our active solidarity" with an initiative that "to date, as far as we know, is unique in the university landscape."
Since the beginning of the emergency, Petrocelli concludes, the University has "immediately implemented alternative forms of distance learning, and graduation sessions and now final exams have also been held online, and in some cases this has required even more work than usual. We have adopted and are adopting initiatives to care for our students, listen to them, monitor their progress, and support them."
