The University of the Republic of San Marino will hold a double event: the inauguration ceremony for the 2016-2017 academic year and the awarding of an Honorary Degree in Design to American Donald Arthur Norman, scheduled for Tuesday, October 4, at 15:15 PM in the Kursaal del Titano Congress Center.
The University of San Marino has chosen to combine two of the year's most significant moments, both academically and beyond, in a single event. On the same afternoon, the event will feature talks by Rector Corrado Petrocelli and Norman, a psychologist and engineer, director of the Design Lab at the University of California, San Diego. He is formerly vice president of Apple's advanced technologies research group and a global leader in ergonomics and design studies from the perspective of cognitive processes. Business Week has included him in its list of the 27 most influential designers of all time.
The American, who has played a leading role in transforming the discipline, making significant contributions to the scientific community, will deliver a lecture entitled "The Future of Design." He has previously authored 18 books translated into twenty languages, including "The Masochist's Coffee Maker," "The Invisible Computer," and "Emotional Design."
His speech will be preceded by remarks from the Rector, the Secretary of State for Education, Giuseppe Morganti, the Director of the Department of Economics, Science, and Law, Anna Corradi, and the Director of the Master's Degree in Design, Michele Zannoni. The ceremony will be held in the Sala Titano of the Kursaal Congress Center, at Viale Kennedy 17, San Marino City. Admission is free.
