The University of the Republic of San Marino, together with its faculty, students, scholars, and staff of its educational programs and administrative structure, expresses its condolences for the passing of Li Yujun, director of the Confucius Institute.
The professor, in office since September 2020, has been involved in research in areas such as applied linguistics, intercultural communication, and translation. A recent key figure in organizing the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of relations between China and China, he has been recognized as a figure of stature both academically and personally.
"I particularly remember a meeting during which he described to me with great conviction and enthusiasm his commitment to creating new forms of collaboration between San Marino and China," says Rector Corrado Petrocelli, "building on what had already been done with initiatives that included the exchange of professors and, above all, students, with the aim of hosting some students from Eastern universities on Titan."
Opened in 2015, the Confucius Institute of San Marino is part of the University of San Marino and hosts initiatives such as language and culture courses, addressing topics and disciplines including traditional medicine, calligraphy, and more. Connected to Beijing City University, a partner institution in China, it has organized initiatives such as trips to the East, which in recent years have involved several students from the University of San Marino, who have been offered the opportunity to attend summer camps in Beijing.
