The University of the Republic of San Marino has joined the network of the project “Detect – Detecting Transcultural Identity in European Popular Crime Narratives,” coordinated by the University of Bologna as part of an initiative of the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program entitled “Understanding Europe – Promoting the European public and cultural space.”
The activities involved will be led by Elena D'Amelio, professor and researcher at the University of San Marino: "The aim is to understand how transnational production, distribution, and consumption practices in the field of popular culture have facilitated the emergence of compelling representations of European cultural identity, through the contribution of scholars, teachers, students, and professionals in the creative industries."
The project, he continues, addresses the formation of European cultural identity as a continuous process of transformation driven by the mobility of people, products, and representations across the continent. Thanks to the extraordinary mobility of its products, popular culture plays a crucial role in the circulation of representations that constitute a shared cultural asset for broad sectors of European society.
D'Amelio joins a network that involves over 20 academics from places such as Nottingham, Padua, Turin, Montreal, and Venice.
